The second most northerly town in the Gironde, Soulac-sur-Mer is characterized by its slopes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Gironde estuary on the other. Our campsite near Soulac sur Mer takes you on a discovery tour of the city and its surroundings, so you can enjoy all its different facets.
As a seaside resort in the Gironde, it’s hardly surprising that Soulac sur Mer’s beaches are one of its defining features. As in Hourtin, you’ll find plenty of water sports activities. Surfing, jet-skiing, kayaking, wakeboarding — the choice is yours! There are also other ideas for outings to discover the city and its heritage.

However, coming to Soulac-sur-Mer is also an opportunity to discover its heritage. Choose between a visit on the Little Tourist Train, on foot with a stopover at the superb Basilica of Notre Dame de la Fin des Terres, or on a guided tour. These include guided tours on a variety of themes, such as the villas of Soulac or the North Medoc fortress memorial, for an immersion in history.
To enjoy the scenery, others will opt for a walk along the customs path (1.5 km). Holidaymakers on a family camping holiday in near Soulac can also enjoy a treasure hunt with Terra Aventura’s geocaching program. And to further explore Soulac-sur-Mer, holidaymakers can head to the market to do a little shopping and sample the local flavours. Finally, during summer, the seaside town offers a multitude of activities and events for the whole family.
There is no shortage of ideas for outings around Soulac-sur-Mer. First, head north towards Le Verdon-sur-Mer and Pointe de Grave: panoramic views of the Gironde estuary and the ocean, blockhouses and coastal paths. This is also where boats depart for the Cordouan lighthouse, known as the “Versailles of the sea” and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site: a memorable excursion at low tide, with a climb to the top for a 360° view.
Fancy a trip across the water? Hop on the Le Verdon–Royan ferry for a day on the other side of the estuary: Belle Époque seafront, promenades, and beautiful walks to the troglodytic cliffs of Meschers (depending on your schedule).
To the south, Vendays-Montalivet charms visitors with its surfing culture, long beaches and large market (open daily in summer) where you can sample oysters, local produce and Médoc wines. Cyclists will enjoy the kilometres of shaded paths of the Vélodyssée (EuroVelo 1), which connect Soulac, Le Verdon and Montalivet through pine forests and dunes: ideal for families, with multiple bike rental companies.

For a relaxing break, head to the Hourtin-Carcans lakes (approx. 40–50 mins by car): calm waters, supervised beaches, sailing, paddleboarding, playgrounds and nature reserves where you can observe wildlife. Inland, follow the Médoc Castle Route (Saint-Estèphe, Pauillac, Margaux): visit the estates for cellar tours and tastings (remember to book).
Finally, sprinkle your stay with little pleasures: surfing or bodyboarding sessions, horse riding on the beach, sunsets on the beaches of Amélie or La Naïade, and gourmet stops at the oyster huts on the estuary. Around Soulac, the Médoc way of life can be savoured between the ocean, forest, vineyards and heritage — it’s up to you to plan your itinerary according to your desires!
