From the La Côte d’Argent campsite, set off to discover Le Verdon sur Mer, 49 km (45 min) by car from your vacation rental.
This family-friendly seaside resort reveals itself through its various harbors: the old oyster port, where fishermen’s huts now house artists; the Port Bloc, where you can take the ferry to Royan and Port Médoc; and the marina, the departure point for the famous Cordouan lighthouse.
Then enjoy the two beautiful beaches of Le Verdon sur Mer. The supervised La Chambrette beach offers superb views of the estuary, the Charentes beaches and the port of Le Verdon. What’s more, you can enjoy a wide range of water sports (surfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, etc.). The Saint-Nicolas beach is accessible via the dunes (an area is reserved for naturists). This large, sandy beach has been designated a Natura 2000 site.
Nearby, the Pointe de la Grave marks the northern tip of the Médoc. From this unspoilt spot, rich in biodiversity, you can take the 7 km tourist train from Le Verdon sur Mer to Soulac-sur-Mer. From Le Verdon sur Mer, there are several tourist itineraries to choose from.
You can follow the ocean to reach Hourtin and its sublime natural lake. This stretch of water is ideal for water sports and outdoor activities.
On the way, stop off at Soulac-sur-Mer, famous for its beautiful beaches and period villas. And don’t miss Vendays-Montalivet, with its wide beaches, marshes and market, one of the largest in Gironde, held every morning from June 15 to September 15 (8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.).
You can also take the D1215 road through the center of the Médoc. Along the way, you can visit Saint-Vivien de Médoc, a village typical of the region, and Lesparre-Médoc, with its rich local gastronomy (wines, ceps, noisettines, etc.). And don’t forget the town’s architectural heritage, with the Tour de l’Honneur and its museum.
Finally, drive along theGironde estuary to admire the breathtaking scenery. Along the way, you’ll come across villages well known to wine lovers: Saint-Estèphe, Pauillac, Saint-Julien-Beychevelle and Margaux-Cantenac.
